Foul mouth: Diego Costa Handed 8-Game Ban

Discussion in 'Spanish League' started by Football cyborg, Apr 11, 2019.

  1. Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa has been banned for eight games after being found guilty of abusing a referee.

The former Chelsea forward, 30, was sent off by official Jesus Gil Manzano during Atletico's 2-0 loss to Barcelona in La Liga.

Manzano said in his match report that the Spanish international had "insulted his mother", a claim Costa denied.

The Spanish Football Federation's ban rules him out of Atletico's remaining La Liga fixtures this season.

Costa, who can appeal against the ban, received a four game suspension for insults to the referee and a further four for grabbing the official's arm.

"I asked the referee and he told me Costa said something to him," Atletico manager Diego Simeone said after the game.

"Other players have said things and not been sent off but that does not justify what Costa did.

Referees are given much freedom in football, and it's too harsh for him.

Very harsh, the referee is taking advantage of Costa's usual harsh reactions.

I think the 8 match ban serves him right! He should know that he's no longer a kid. I expect him to have learnt from him past mistakes. I wonder why he's still making the same mistakes at old age. He should turn a new leaf!!!

Nobody has the right to abuse another person's mother, that's an insult of the highest order, how would Costa had felt if someone had called his mother a bitch. Punishment well deserved.

I also agree with you. It's a case of who watches the watcher. Ref will make mistakes that will dumb a team out of a competition. An example is a contentious penalty that was awarded to Real Madrid last season that dumped Juventus out of the Champions League and also earn Buffon a fine and also a depression. The culprit, Michael Oliver walked free. Refs need to be serious punished too for their errors.
