Liverpool went from being underdogs to being title favourite after the group phase of the Champions League match were conclused.

Liverpool started the Champions League on a poor note failing to get all three point when they should have and they were believed to be the weeping Boys among the English representatives.

Former Chelsea and Fulham star Damien Duff believes Liverpool are Champions League contenders after their a 7-0 destruction of Spartak Moscow at Anfield which sealed their position as Group E leader.

Liverpool were 3 goals up in just 18 minutes after a devastating opening salvo that ended in a 7-0 trashing of Spartak Moscow in the final group game in the Champions League.

Speaking on RTE after the match Duff unimpressed with Spartak Moscow performance said: (Liverpool's) defence was never really tested but I still think they are potential winners of this tournament."

"They get found out over a league season over 38 games, but now they are in the knockout stages. Over two legs, they can beat anyone. We've seen what they can do in 20 minutes. They just steamroll teams with their energy, with the fab four as we call them.

"Over two legs, Real Madrid , Barca, I think they could do anyone. I honestly do."

Brady who was also in the studio with Duff believes Liverpool are doing well but does not think Liverpool are strong enough to edge out Barcelona or Real Madrid

"I don't like to take on these two titans but I don't want to delude Liverpool fans, some of whom are close to me," he said. Liverpool won't win the Champions League because they don't have a defence."

What do you think, can Liverpool beat both Barça and Madrid if they meet and then lift the Champions League? Have a say, drop your comments below.

It's a shame that despite everything that Liverpool, they still haven't earn the trust of most of us. But one thing is certain the coming of Van Dirk will solve some of their defence challenges.

I just want to bring it to your notice that Liverpool are no push over. They can pull up surprises when least expected.

  10. Some fans forget too soon that Liverpool's defence is the worst in the world? How can that defense survive against Barcelona or Real Madrid?
Let's see what will happen in the next phase of the Champions League
