Navas or Courtois: Solari tightlipped

Discussion in 'Spanish League' started by Football cyborg, Nov 1, 2018.

  1. Real Madrid caretaker coach Santiago Solari was tightlipped over his goalkeeper plans after their Copa win at Melilla.

Real Madrid can boast of having two of the best goalkeepers in the world in three-time Champions League winner Keylor Navas and current FIFA Best goal keeper of the Year Thibaut Courtois.

Chelsea sold Courtois to Real Madrid for £35 million after the Spaniard made no secret of his desire to be reunited with his young family in Spain. Since moving to Spain, he has struggled to get into the first team.

Former boss Julen Lopetegui adopted a rotational policy which neither Keylor Navas nor Thibaut Courtois are particularly enthused about. Courtois made the line in Real Madrid 5-1 trashing by Barcelona, a defeat that led to the sacking of Lopetegui.

Caretaker coach Solari recalled Keylor Navas for the 4-0 win, benching Thibaut Courtois in the process. Asked if Keylor would keep his place for Saturday's LaLiga clash with Real Valladolid , Solari said: "We will see..."

Solari had much the same to say when asked if he will still be in charge in 15 days' time.
"I do not know. Today's game is enough for me. Now to focus on the weekend and the next game."

As caretaker coach, Solari can stay in charge of the first team for two weeks before he either returns to his Castilla job or is handed the senior post fulltime
