The former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney was in the skysport studio alongside former Liverpool player Jamie Carragher on Monday Night Football.

The duo discussed lots of trending topic one of which was the drama between Liverpool and Spurs so also was the swap deal that saw Henrikh Mkhtiaryan move to Arsenal and Alexis Sanchez move in the opposite direction.

Manchester United signed the Chilean forward in a straight player-swap deal with Henrikh Mkhitaryan going the other way and both players have stated their careers at their news clubs very impressively.

While Alexis has always appeared to be a world-class player, Mkhitaryan really struggled in his final few months under Jose Mourinho and the Theatre of Dreams.

Mkhitaryan spent a year and a half season at Manchester United where he made 39 appearances scoring five times and was part of their UEFA Europa League winning squad last season but suffered from bouts of poor form and his confidence dropped drastically this term when he was left out for nearly two months by Mourinho.

Wayne Rooney who was a team mate of the Armenian at Manchester United left Old Trafford for his boyhood Everton in the summer believes Mkhitaryan will thrive at Arsenal after completing a January move from Manchester United.

The Armenian playmaker made his home debut against Rooney's Everton side on Saturday, and delivered a hat-trick of assists in the 5-1 win at the Emirates Stadium. Rooney watched on from the bench as Mkhitaryan ran riot against his Everton side on Saturday and Rooney says the Armenian is better suited to the Gunners.

Rooney said on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football. "I saw it a lot in training, he is a quality player, I think at United he did not get the freedom he really wanted to perform like he did at Dortmund. I really do think he will kick on."

Mkhitaryan moved to Arsenal, with Alexis Sanchez heading in the opposite direction, and the Chilean opened his United account with a goal in Saturday's 2-0 win over Huddersfield at Old Trafford.

And Rooney believes Sanchez's January arrival can spur other United players on for the rest of the season.

"I really think he is the perfect player for Manchester United. He has got aggression, passion, desire. And you can see he is a winner. That is what Manchester United have really lacked – players around Lukaku who can really push Lukaku on. Sanchez will do that. Like Tevez when he joined United – he lifted players around him, getting that extra five, 10 per cent.

Alexis scored 80 goals in 166 appearances during his time at the Emirates Stadium. He was part of two Emirates FA Cup-winning squads (2015 and 2017), scoring in both finals.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan will get the freedom he needs to operate at Arsenal. Unlike at Manchester United where the boss Jose Mourinho is overtly defensive. Mkhitaryan was fantastic against Everton and he replicated the form that made United sign him from Borussia Dortmund.

Do you think the swap deal between Arsenal and Manchester United was the best for both Alexis Sanchez and Henrikh Mkhitaryan? Have a say, drop your comments below.

The swap deal is the best for Henrikh Mkhitaryan because at asrsenal he will have the confidence and more playing chances on the pitch and he will also b happy playx along his dortmund counterpart together as they did in dortmund
For Alexis he is an attacking playing but the playing style of mourinho is defensive so he will face challenges with time playing with Mourinho

  3. Exactly, he also left Manchester United where he was a slave for Arsenal where he'll become a king. All he needs to do is to key into Wengers system as fast as possible. With Ozil and Aubameyang he'll succeed.
