Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted the mother of Bordeaux and Super Eagles' winger, Samuel Kalu and a ransom demanded for her safe return, Police in the south-west on Nigeria reported on Monday. The 21-year-old's mum was abducted by unidentified gunmen on her way home from work in the Nigerian city of Aba and the winger has begged his mother's kidnappers to release her. A ransom of £31,000 has been demanded by the group, who are threatening to rise the price each day. According to the Nigerian Guardian, Ozuruonye Juliet Kalu was travelling with some of her children when armed men blocked her vehicle, ordered the kids out of the car, and drove away. Abia State police communications officer Godfrey Ogbona told AFP: "The incident happened on the 27th of February. "No arrest has been made so far on the incident, but investigation into the matter is moving on towards ensuring that she is rescued unhurt and the perpetrators are brought to book." Kalu is understood to have been told immediately of the situation, and he has implored his mother's kidnappers to let her go. Speaking to Sporting Nigeria , a tearful Kalu said: "Please help me beg them to release my mother because my ambition is to do everything within my powers and capabilities to help the Super Eagles win the forthcoming 2019 Africa Cup of Nations. "My mother was kidnapped on Wednesday 27th of last month, February, when she was going back home. The kidnappers asked for the ransom of N3 million the first time which was given to them and assured us that they will release her. "We waited the whole night we did not see her. The next morning they called again that they want more money that the money was being given to another person. Now they are asking for the ransom of N15 million.” Kalu isn't the only Nigerian star that has had family members kidnapped, with John Obi Mikel's father taken twice - including at the World Cup last year. It's unclear whether Kalu will feature for Bordeaux tonight in their Ligue 1 clash against Montpellier. The former Gent forward - who has been capped five times for the Super Eagles - has chipped in with four goals and four assists in 29 games this season.
