Uganda national team coach Sebastien Desabre has revealed that his side first target at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations will be to get past the group stages and actually top the group ahead of the continental football giants with whom they were pooled in Group A of the tournament. The Uganda Cranes were pitted hosts Egypt, DR Congo and Zimbabwe in Group A, with the Cranes’ first game coming against Congo while they will play Egypt in the final group match. Desabre was speaking to the media at Kabira Country Club on Monday in a Q&A session with the media organised by Fufa. The French man admitted all opponents in Group A are tough but his boys are motivated and called upon all stakeholders to push in one direction. “We shall take game by game. It’s possible to qualify with any points depending on what happens, but our objective is to finish first in the group,” Desabre said. “Group A is a difficult and has quality teams. but it’s open but we have a good team that can play its way out of the group. I know the Egypt team because I worked there, but we have the quality to make,” he added. The Uganda Cranes preliminary squad begins preparations on Monday at Namboole ahead of the camp in the United Arab Emirates on May 27 from where they play a friendly game against Ivory Coast.
