Real Madrid-bound Brazilian youngster Vinicius Junior has admitted that he chose to sign for Real Madrid over their eternal rival Barcelona and other European suitors because to him, they are "the biggest club" in the world. Contrary to general opinion that the teenager signed for Real Madrid because of money, Vinicius Junior revealed he opted to join Real Madrid instead of Barcelona because he preferred the sporting possibilities in the Santiago Bernabeu to Barcelona's offer even though Barcelona offered him more money. Real Madrid secured the signing of the 16-year-old Vinicius from Flamengo who has been called the "Next Neymar" - for a record €45 million fee, despite the youth standout having yet to play a senior match with Flamengo. The youngster will remain with Flamengo until until he turns 18 in mid-July but he's already looking forward to linking up with his new teammates. Speaking with ESPN Brazil on Wednesday Vinicius said he choose Madrid ahead of other clubs because he wants to play among the best legs in the game and a number of Real Madrid players helped in influencing that decision. "I chose Real Madrid because it's the biggest club," the forward told the outlet. "I've always chosen to play among the best, and with help from Marcelo and Casemiro, I made that choice." Asked how fellow Brazilians Marcelo and Casemiro recruited him, Vinicius added: "They messaged me, called me ... always saying that the best have to play with the best. Real Madrid were so fascinated by the young lad's talent that they had to splash a whopping sum of €45m when he was still 16. A year later he proven himself and has been a driving force behind Flamengo's strong start to the season, scoring six goals and providing three assists in 11 league and Copa Libertadores matches thus far. But now, having made his way into the Flamengo first team, his future is now a subject of speculation and it's unknown if he will join Real after his birthday this summer or remain with Flamengo on loan to continue his development. "For me, it would be best to adapt as quickly as possible," he said, when asked about going to Spain. "There, the dynamics of the game are different from Brazil. "Everything Real Madrid has offered me, I'll choose the best option together with my agent and Flamengo, not only thinking about the present but thinking ahead, on how much I'll evolve and get the experience I need, whether it is here at Flamengo or leaving." Vinicius added that he preferred their project more, the success of current Madrid stars who signed for the club at a young age also helped persuade him. The likes of Raphael Varane, Sergio Ramos, Casemiro, Marco Asensio, Marcelo all arrived before the age of 22 and they're all very important players in the first team now.
