Wright reveals why Emery is doing well and Wenger didn't

  1. Former Arsenal striker, Ian Wright has praised Arsenal manager Unai Emery’s ability to change matches with his substitutions and believes it is a major improvement on former boss Arsene Wenger.

After taking over at the Emirates Stadium to bring an end to Wenger reign at the club which has seen Arsenal slum down to the status of a mere club, Emery's biggest job will be changing the mindset of Arsenal's squad and he's done that in less than 6 months.

The Gunners extended their unbeaten run to 19 games with a derby victory over Tottenham, with Emery making a double substitution at half-time to inspire a remarkable and pulsating turnaround at the Emirates.

Unai Emery's men will be the guest of Manchester United at the Old Trafford tonight and confidence has never been higher. The impressive 4-2 victory over Tottenham at the weekend has been seen by many as a change of the times.

The Arsenal legend is a huge fan of how proactive Emery has been in matches this season, which is in stark contrast to Wenger’s management style.

Wrighty has been impressed by Emery’s in-game management. Ahead of the match tonight, Wright spoke about what Emery has done that his predecessor never did.

‘I’m not really fussed about the team, what he starts with, because what I’m doing with Unai is I’m just giving him the breathing space to do what he wants,’ Wright explained on his YouTube channel.

'Because the best thing about Unai is that even if he gets it wrong in respect of who he picks at the start, he changes it. That’s something that we never had. It never happened.

‘I love the boss [Wenger], I love the boss absolutely, but we knew nothing was going to happen until 70 minutes no matter what’s going on in the game. ‘Even when you’re sitting there crying out to bring on a substitute, it didn’t happen.

'But Unai Emery will make substitutions, and the substitutions he’s making are making a difference. Plenty of fans were unhappy with how slow Wenger was to react in games ‘So I don’t care who he starts, because everybody now in that team knows they better do their stuff otherwise someone is coming on – and someone could be coming on as early as half-time.

‘So now you’ve got players who are incentivised to start and play well, and I thought the start against Spurs was one to build on. And hopefully we can start the same against Manchester United.’

Since it was posted on his YouTube channel yesterday more than 25,000 Football fans have seen the clip, affirming the legend's opinion. Unai Emery's style and philosophy has help Arsenal overcome whatever circumstances they were predicted to precede post Wenger era.

Reacting to the video a fan wrote
    “You are a proper legend,”
Another commented: “I love Ian, he’s truly an Arsenal fan no matter where he’s at.”
